Sloan Creek Leopards vs. Wylie Cooper Patriots 7th Grade Football
7th 9-21-10
Kicking off the last week of summer, the Sloan Creek 7th grade football teams stepped onto their home field to take on the Patriots of Wylie Cooper. Both Red and Black teams were eager to get to work and start their first winning football streak.
Red Team
The captains, Alek Milewski and Kevin Davis, elected to kick-off with the wind. Alec Arbabi kicked off and the tackle was made by Ricardo Gonzales pinning the Patriots back on their own seven yard line. The defense, after shutting out their opponents last week, wasted no time picking up where they left off. With tackles by Collin Boyd, Shane Gentry and Thomas Elvin, the Patriots were forced to punt. The punt was blocked by Connor Adkins and the offense took over on the Patriot 12 yard line. On the Leopards third play, Adam Chovan scored on 14 yard run. The point after was no good making the score 6-0 Leopards.
The defense took to the field once again. The swarming defensive line consisting of Matt Norwood, Cason Kelly, Collin Boyd, Austin Henning and Adam Dziubinski, forced the Patriots to go three and out once again. The offense took over and on the first play of the second quarter, Kevin Davis connected with Nicholas Nonnamacher for a forty yard touchdown pass. The extra point try failed making the score 12-0 Leopards.

The second half began with the both teams exchanging interceptions. Sloan Creek’s interception was returned 38 yards by Alec Arbabi for a touchdown. Kevin Davis’s scramble for the extra point made the score 25-0 Leopards.
The Leopards started the fourth quarter with the ball and the offensive line took control. On the sixth play, Kevin Davis pitched to Connor Adkins which resulted in a 12 yard touchdown run. The extra point run was good by Adkins making the score 32-0 Leopards.
With two minutes left in the game the Patriots were finally able to score a touchdown. The scoreless streak for the defense finally ended at seven quarters. The offense ran the clock out and the Leopards Red was once again victorious. The final score 32-7 SCMS Leopards Red.
Black Team
The Sloan Creek Leopards Black kicked off to the Wylie Cooper Patriots Blue. The team colors were definitely an indication of the hard hitting by both teams. By the end of this game, many players participating were definitely a little “black and blue.”
Under the full moon, the captains for the game were Aaron Fuller and Bowman Sells. The Patriots won the toss and elected to receive. After a 17 yard run by Bowman Sells, the Patriots recovered a Leopard fumble on the 18 of Wylie. The Wylie offense could not contain the defensive front line of the Leopards. Morgan Dooley’s tackle for a six yard loss and another tackle by Bennett, along with an incomplete pass, caused the Patriots to punt. The punt was partially blocked and Bowman Sells picked the ball out of the air and raced thirty yards for the first score of the game. Leopards 6 and Patriots 0 The kick off by Austin VanWagoner pinned the Patriots back at their own 14 yard line. The Leopards linebackers Jacob Parrot and Bowman Sells stuffed the Patriot ball carriers causing a fourth and 17. Bailey Bennett’s tackle in the end zone with an assist from Grant Benno caused a two point safety. Leopards 8 and Patriots 0.
The Patriots elected to kick off from their twenty yard line and the ball went all the way down to the Lovejoy goal line where the ball was returned to the ten yard line. The Patriot defense stiffened up and the ball was turned over on downs at the Leopards 38 yard line. Great defensive plays by Dakota Michaels, Conner Haden, Morgan Dooley and Jake Mayfield caused Wylie to go four plays and out. The Patriots recovered a bobbled snap back on the Sloan Creek 8 yard line. With 35 seconds left in the first half, the Cooper Patriots scored on the next play. The extra two point conversion was blocked and at half time the Leopards’ lead was 8 to 6. The second half began with the offensive line (Bailey Bennett, Conner Haden, Bailey Smith and Lane White) creating gaping holes for the Leopard backs to run through. On second and two, with the ball on the 13 yard line, Jacob Parrott’s touchdown and VanWagoner’s kick made the score 16 to 6 Leopards.
The Patriots had a long kickoff return called back for holding and the ball was placed at the leopard 27 yard line. The defense buckled down and on third and eight, Jake Mayfield’s interception gave the ball back to the offense on the Leopard 39 yard line. Jacob Parrott’s 24 yard touchdown run was set up by outstanding blocks from Garrett Robinson and Matt VanSmith. Aaron Fuller ran the ball over the goal line for the extra point. Leopards 23 and the Patriots 6.
Garrett Robinson’s hit on the ensuing kickoff caused a fumble and was recovered by Jacob Parrott. The beginning of the fourth quarter started with the Leopards turning the ball over on downs. With seven minutes left in the game and the Patriots down by 17, CJ Vogel’s interception and 19 yard return stopped another Wylie drive. A couple of bobbled snaps kept Sloan Creek from capitalizing and the ball was turned over on downs. The Patriots offense continued to put pressure on the defense. Jack Sendelbach had three tackles for the defense on the Patriots last drive of the game. Wylie scored, but the game was out of reach and the Leopards Black ran their record to 2-0 for the season. Final Score Leopards Black 23 and Patriots Blue 13.
